I don't mind the new design but if I have to jump hoops and hurdles just to shut down a computer something is very wrong here

The problem may be that you're expecting the things to be in the same places as it was in all the previous OSes.
I think they shouldn't have called it Windows but something else, but shifting a brand name is a terrible move.
My co-worker and I both shifted to Windows 8 at the same time and we love it, but another co-worker (his boss) hated it. (Note we're in IT)

But you should note, my dad's not in IT and he's doing really well with his Windows 8 laptop (my mom's still running XP lol)
