to most non-hardcore fans he is the face and voice of the band for all purposes, if we're looking at the larger question of why shinee are irrelevant (meme uses this word a lot, it wouldn't occur to me) that's different. he has everything going for him and nothing holding him back, but i don't understand what level of constant adulation you all expect for him.
he's not the face of the band. yes he might be (was) the voice, shinee are not equally irrelevant though. some are more relevant than others. and when you don't do many activities to establish a separate identity from the group, it's easier to stay irrelevant. I am grateful that he found shinee, as jonghyun is. he could have more, is all i'm saying
so who is more relevant than him? i hope you're not talking about taemin because there's a lot of qualities jonghyun has that taemin doesn't, they're incredibly different. i'm not sure i can see taemin working well outside of an environment like sment, where jonghyun i can see flourishing pretty much anywhere.
of course he could have more- can have more. he's still young.
realistically, onew, minho and taemin are more relevant than him. just by observation, taemin has been getting a good deal of company support. he was always popular, but the support has helped.
it's not a matter of age. the company could be doing more for him, but he's not popular enough for them to do as much. reality of the industry
da but i don't think he does much about it either. he doesn't seem particularly ambitious in real world terms. taemin is extremely ambitious, it's not like he hasn't met sm half way.
i'll be honest, i find taemin a bit boring but at the same time he is tremendous. if there's anybody in shinee who i really had to idolize, i would pick taemin because he works so damn hard.
the hard-workingness is one of those qualities. i don't think i can idolize anyone primarily bc they work hard, but in general i find it hard to idolize ppl. the closest i can get is jjong bc he is so devoted to music and so happy to talk about it
i love jonghyun the most but taemin is such an admirable person to me. he has so much courage for his age, it's beautiful just watching him come all this way. he's hungry and it's good, i wish i had the drive to make more of the opportunities given to me.
i'm usually torn between jjong and onew, onew can be pretty opaque and that's interesting to me. you're right about taemin- and i'm one of the ppl always gushing over how much he's improved as a singer. bc he didn't rly NEED to do that, in some ways, and yet he must really want to, and that's awesome.
minho needs to do this stuff and hope to stay relevant because he's not amazing at singing, dancing OR acting- and he can't even be a sports star, dream team be damned. you're right about taemin getting company support- i think lsm has him pegged for a major future player, at least superficially, because he seems to epitomise all the qualities sm like to present. i honestly don't know about onew, he does a lot of shit and talks to a lot of people but i can see him throwing a curve ball within the next five years.
the company could be doing more, and the industry is fucked up. i agree. i was just thinking of what he can do in a broader context. i don't think he feels his life or musical career revolve around sm, even though he is obviously committed to and fond of being in shinee. that would be good and realistic too, you know?
onew always had general likability, the opportunities he had in 2010 helped a lot as well
sm is a powerful company capable of giving opportunities disassociated from the sm brand. i think he would appreciate more opportunities, though he might not aggressively seek them.
they could both use opportunities enabled by sm but not under them bc there's no way sm lets them focus on their actual strengths under this setup. sometimes i feel like they'd enjoy being indie band vocalists a lot more lol.
