that's... fine?

(Anonymous) 2013-04-18 05:17 am (UTC)(link)
ofc it is but wasn't expecting that to be the first day conversation before class

(Anonymous) 2013-04-18 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
like he isn't really counting on them to advance his career beyond a point, mostly because he doesn't need to. he has a good voice and a decent reputation. he also has a knack for being a public personality so i feel like when it comes to him, sm didn't have to do much and still doesn't?

(Anonymous) 2013-04-18 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
ia

(Anonymous) 2013-04-18 05:21 am (UTC)(link)
ida agree that 'he doesn't need to'. he's not exactly well set up for a career after disbandment. I think he's just not a greedy person.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-18 05:22 am (UTC)(link)
can i say this without being bricked, i mean it's probably true for most of the others too, unlike some other idols in sm/other companies he wouldn't be in a rly bad place without this idol gig. he gave up college for music but iirc his family are well-off and extremely supportive- that has to count for sth. given all this, it's wise of him to be picky with his time/energy

(Anonymous) 2013-04-18 05:23 am (UTC)(link)
but who in shinee is greedy anyway

(Anonymous) 2013-04-18 05:24 am (UTC)(link)
maybe greedy is a bad word. some of them are more ambitious and seek solo opportunities

(Anonymous) 2013-04-18 05:25 am (UTC)(link)
it's kind of balanced out given that jong is the lead singer within the group? and some of them (... ok, minho) aren't rly going to be known for their amazing singing OR dancing skilz. so it makes sense

(Anonymous) 2013-04-18 05:28 am (UTC)(link)
it would be balanced if jjong gets more attention from fans and the public for being the lead singer. but while his talent gets a certain degree of recognition, largely from industry peers, he doesn't get more attention.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-18 05:30 am (UTC)(link)
to most non-hardcore fans he is the face and voice of the band for all purposes, if we're looking at the larger question of why shinee are irrelevant (meme uses this word a lot, it wouldn't occur to me) that's different. he has everything going for him and nothing holding him back, but i don't understand what level of constant adulation you all expect for him.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-18 05:34 am (UTC)(link)
i can't be the only fan who's actually pretty happy thinking of their future in music/entertainment biz. they're all extremely talented and/or charismatic and korea's brutal overfocus on youth doesn't mean that they can't go on to have much stronger and more interesting careers- whether still in the band, or in collabs, or entirely solo.

they're in their early 20s, they're not athletes. they have the rest of their lives to do this in. we don't need to feel persecuted on their behalf.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-18 05:35 am (UTC)(link)
he's not the face of the band. yes he might be (was) the voice, shinee are not equally irrelevant though. some are more relevant than others. and when you don't do many activities to establish a separate identity from the group, it's easier to stay irrelevant. I am grateful that he found shinee, as jonghyun is. he could have more, is all i'm saying

(Anonymous) 2013-04-18 05:37 am (UTC)(link)
so who is more relevant than him? i hope you're not talking about taemin because there's a lot of qualities jonghyun has that taemin doesn't, they're incredibly different. i'm not sure i can see taemin working well outside of an environment like sment, where jonghyun i can see flourishing pretty much anywhere.

of course he could have more- can have more. he's still young.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-18 05:39 am (UTC)(link)
it's nice of you to be optimistic. personally, i'm not. they'll hopefully get by but they're not immensely talented artists. they're good idols and maybe some of them are good singers or dancers but if at any point the industry suffers, they will as well. a decline is inevitable but hopefully they'll find some stable earnings. i don't expect them to go through the rest of their lives with even half of their current popularity but that said, of course i hope the best for them.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-18 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
haha i don't mean immensely talented artists and they're not even all at the same level, but the three that seem the most invested in music i really do see them going on in their chosen field. i wasn't even talking about the level of popularity they have now, i guess my optimism comes with a hard edge, i don't really feel sad knowing they can maybe go out shopping alone when they're 40 without being swarmed by screaming fangirls. and the kpop bubble definitely will burst, yeah.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-18 05:43 am (UTC)(link)
realistically, onew, minho and taemin are more relevant than him. just by observation, taemin has been getting a good deal of company support. he was always popular, but the support has helped.

it's not a matter of age. the company could be doing more for him, but he's not popular enough for them to do as much. reality of the industry

(Anonymous) 2013-04-18 05:45 am (UTC)(link)
jjong should just focus on being a songwriter

(Anonymous) 2013-04-18 05:46 am (UTC)(link)
da but i don't think he does much about it either. he doesn't seem particularly ambitious in real world terms. taemin is extremely ambitious, it's not like he hasn't met sm half way.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-18 05:46 am (UTC)(link)
yeah, i hope that works out for him.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-18 05:47 am (UTC)(link)
ia that's a factor

(Anonymous) 2013-04-18 05:47 am (UTC)(link)
lol my dad is impressed by onjungs voices

(Anonymous) 2013-04-18 05:48 am (UTC)(link)
minho needs to do this stuff and hope to stay relevant because he's not amazing at singing, dancing OR acting- and he can't even be a sports star, dream team be damned. you're right about taemin getting company support- i think lsm has him pegged for a major future player, at least superficially, because he seems to epitomise all the qualities sm like to present. i honestly don't know about onew, he does a lot of shit and talks to a lot of people but i can see him throwing a curve ball within the next five years.

the company could be doing more, and the industry is fucked up. i agree. i was just thinking of what he can do in a broader context. i don't think he feels his life or musical career revolve around sm, even though he is obviously committed to and fond of being in shinee. that would be good and realistic too, you know?

(Anonymous) 2013-04-18 05:48 am (UTC)(link)
it's going to be tough

(Anonymous) 2013-04-18 05:48 am (UTC)(link)
onjung?
