when you use real people though. can't read it the same way I do any other piece of fiction.

so basically you can only read fic that has nothing but facts about your oppar? no imagination allowed?

(Anonymous) 2013-04-10 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
no. i read if the imagined scenarios tie into his personality. like if he were in such a hypothetical circumstance, he could act in such away.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-10 07:31 pm (UTC)(link)
how do you know how he would react to circumstances you haven't seen him in?

da right?? that's the whole point of fiction, isn't it, putting characters in situations you might not have already thought of, seeing how they deal with various conflicts and desires. seemingly tiny things can have massive impact on someone's personality, part of the fun with au fanfic is playing with those.

original anon here

I didn't mean that fic writers can't play with things like that at all. Just that there is still some sort of basis for constructing the grounds for play. If a writer constructs well, and takes me into that au, I still get into it.

ayrt. i think i get what you mean, that's a legit point of course. like one of my eternal pet peeves is the use of random uncontextualized american/anglo names in a kpop fic i'm told is set in korea... or massive au fics where everyone is gay and fucking each other and it's just a soapy orgy of misunderstandings

well based on what we've learnt about their personalities over the years. I can't know exactly how he would react, but some reactions would be more likely than others, and some quite impossible.
