da right?? that's the whole point of fiction, isn't it, putting characters in situations you might not have already thought of, seeing how they deal with various conflicts and desires. seemingly tiny things can have massive impact on someone's personality, part of the fun with au fanfic is playing with those.
I didn't mean that fic writers can't play with things like that at all. Just that there is still some sort of basis for constructing the grounds for play. If a writer constructs well, and takes me into that au, I still get into it.
ayrt. i think i get what you mean, that's a legit point of course. like one of my eternal pet peeves is the use of random uncontextualized american/anglo names in a kpop fic i'm told is set in korea... or massive au fics where everyone is gay and fucking each other and it's just a soapy orgy of misunderstandings
well based on what we've learnt about their personalities over the years. I can't know exactly how he would react, but some reactions would be more likely than others, and some quite impossible.
