most of them just happen ;; on my longer fics, i normally estimate that it's going to be around 3k, then i estimate 7k, 10k, until i somehow end up at 17k and very confused.
sometimes when i write i don't realize there's more i want to include until i reach that point, and it all takes an unexpected turn
ah, that happens to me too anon! most of the time i write longfic, it's almost always au because i feel like i have to establish relationships more and that itself takes like 3k.
but this one fic i'm planning to write, i feel like it's going to have to be long (too long ;;) since a lot is sorta happening. i'm not sure if i should plan it before i write, or just start and go. i've been kinda wanting to write this for some time, and it's one of those fics that i rly want to finish.
i don't know how you write, but whenever i plan out a fic i tend to lose any sort of drive to write it. i normally start at a point where i know the basics-- everyone's relationships towards one another, a general plot and place where i'd like to finish the fic, and certain scenes that i have to include, and work from there.
if it's going to be a long fic, how much time do you think you'll take planning?
same actually, like i've found the fics i end up finishing are ones i do spontaneously. and the fics i never finish are the ones i plan to write. which is prolly why i've never really liked the fic i write. i've only ever planned for one fic before, and i didn't like how it came out.
i don't think it'll take too long planning, since it's a long fic, but not in the sense the world/plot is nuanced. but it just incorporates a lot of things that i can't see it working well under 10k. do you think i should just start writing and see where it goes?
sometimes when i plan things out and write them differently, i'm disappointed with the results? maybe the same thing happens to you, anon ;;
it's up to you! definitely take note of specific plot points at least, and have a sense of direction you want it to take. if you think about something else when you're already well into the fic, would you oppose to going back and editing more thoroughly?
ah, that has happened to me. because most of the fic i write/finish are all like, small fics, or 5+ks that were only meant to be 1k. as a result, i always feel this dissatisfaction, that i never write what i actually want to write.
ah, thank you for the advice anon! i'm not opposed to that, i think i'm just overthinking this fic cos it's something i've always sort of wanted to write? so i really want to finish it. i've tried similar plots for other fandoms, but i never finish those. and i think i've finally got the small details working with shinee, but it's suck if i ended up with another unfinished 4k u_u
you can still read that anon. it was originally posted for secretsanta, so it's archived on that journal: http://shinee-replay.livejournal.com/646873.html
her long keyho 'vertigo' fic was also for kpop_olymfics, so it's archived there too: http://kpop-olymfics.livejournal.com/26416.html
