the problem here is that 1. they debuted right before kpop started becoming oversaturated with groups. This let them establish a big enough fandom but not so big as dbsk or suju or bb who debuted much before that. on top of that at the time when they debuted they were pm just awkward teenage boys who seemingly had no personality. 2. they have not had any big hits like b2st allowing them to garner a wider audience 3. They do a hell lot less fan service compared to a lot of other boybands and their group dynamic just isn't as loudly affectionate as others. this can add a lot to a fanbase. fangirls are interested when they can ship something. and 4. they don't promote endlessly infinite and bap even used to promote a lot a lot a lot this has allowed even bap who debuted last year to establish a viable fanbase
