while i want him to get more work, i get that they don't send him on is2. i think his voice is not suitable for such competition where everyone is all about korean's fav ~powerful voices. i'd like him to get musical again tho

taemin doesn't have a ~powerful voice tho, neither do a bunch of ppl who HAVE gone there. musicals, he seems to like those, will probs get some work there.

taemin def has potential esp since he can hit higher notes. idk is2 gives me that impression that the voters will only like either emotional perf or perf of songs with high notes lol

i do think that the concept of dragging a high note for the show of it is somewhat foreign to him- uh oh disclaimer that doesn't mean i judge showier, melisma-addicted singers- but part of the appeal on a show like IS is hearing idols try out stuff they don't usually, and even if he did like two stages i'd love to hear his choices

ia on that. i was quite surprised about taemin's choices of songs tbh. i had fun following his is2 appearances

i'm just not really into the idea of is2 bc competition makes people ambitious and when they lose they'll be sad but i'll be even sadder :( i'm so selfish. jjong and taemin never won and that made me sad. i always remember that taeyeon's quote about how you've worked hard for years on singing but ppl would judge that one performance when you fail (or smth like that i can't quite recall). that's why i'd prefer musical rather than singing competition

i wish i knew more about why he chose the um jung hwa song, who arranged it that way. we joke about tarbot so much but rly that was one of the times he showed real feeling in singing, as distinct from performing (which he is always on fire with), and bc it was solo it was so clear.

i agree with that logic anon- i'm no big fan of competition in the arts myself- but it gets word out about a singer and is easier for non-local fans to get to hear, are the other sides of that.

this keeps leading me to the point abt how i don't particularly think onew needs to be an idol singer at all, after his shinee run.

did he? very interesting that he slowed it down, altho in places he stopped it, made it choppy. why don't ppl ask abt stuff like this in interviews.

a musical theatre career would suit him well i think- he'd be around more experienced professionals a lot of the time, it's performance but rly not the same as star-obsessed and constant-scrutiny idoldom, it's a style of singing he's already suited for... yeah, i can see it.
