the problem here is that 1. they debuted right before kpop started becoming oversaturated with groups. This let them establish a big enough fandom but not so big as dbsk or suju or bb who debuted much before that. on top of that at the time when they debuted they were pm just awkward teenage boys who seemingly had no personality. 2. they have not had any big hits like b2st allowing them to garner a wider audience 3. They do a hell lot less fan service compared to a lot of other boybands and their group dynamic just isn't as loudly affectionate as others. this can add a lot to a fanbase. fangirls are interested when they can ship something. and 4. they don't promote endlessly infinite and bap even used to promote a lot a lot a lot this has allowed even bap who debuted last year to establish a viable fanbase
u make a lot of good points. if shinee had everything in this list they'd prolly be pretty popular rn. did b2sts hit do better than rdd?
i actually never got the whole girl groups doing better than boy groups thing digitally. i mean, i get it, girl groups have wider appeal to the general public. but if they're buying digitally, then obviously they like the song and it implies the song has appeal amongst the public.
but like, why would something like f(x)'s electric shock sell more than say, dbsk's 'before u go'? f(x) don't get that much more exposure than dbsk or anything.
i also don't get how some girl groups manage to do well digitally with even some shit ass songs. but girl in the entertainment industry get the short stick of almost everything else, so let them have the digital sales.
